Every Christmas, my mother-in-law would make many different candies to give to friends and family. She always had a candy dish full of candy coated pretzels during the holidays. These were my favorite. Hand made candies are such a special gift.

What Is Almond Bark?

Almond bark is a candy coating that is simple to melt without tempering. This doesn't have any cocoa butter so it's not to be confused with white chocolate. Almond bark is made with vegetable fats, sugar and flavoring.

Ingredients Needed For Almond Bark Dipped Pretzel Rods

This recipe has just three ingredients. These are all readily available at your local grocery store. I bought my almond bark at Aldi's but it can be found anywhere.

  • Vanilla almond bark
  • Pretzel rods
  • Assorted sprinkles

This is one of those treats that take just minutes to prepare.

  1. Melt almond bark.
  2. Stir melted almond bark till smooth.
  3. Dip pretzel rods into almond bark. Let the excess almond bark drip off the pretzel rod, back into the bowl.
  4. Lay dipped pretzel rods on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  5. Decorate the pretzel rods with candy sprinkles.
  6. Allow to dry before storing.

Pro Tips

  • Almond bark comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors. In this recipe, I use the vanilla flavor.
    • Some almond bark comes already separated into squares. Then others are a solid brick of candy. It needs to be broken up before melting.
    • Use a microwave safe bowl to melt the almond bark in thirty seconds intervals, stirring between each time. You do not want to burn the almond bark.
    • Vanilla almond bark can be tinted different colors. Use an oil based food color that is specifically made for candy. A water based food color will not mix with the almond bark.
  • Dip pretzel rods in a small bowl then use a spoon to coat the pretzel.
    • Or put melted almond bark in a jelly mason jar to dip the pretzel rods in. The taller jar lets you submerge the pretzels without needing to use a spoon to coat them.
  • Sprinkles come in many colors, shapes and sizes.
    • I prefer to use large confetti sprinkles or jimmies. These don't melt into the almond bark like sugar sprinkles or non-pariels do. The presentation is prettier, too.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or waxed paper to dry the dipped pretzel rods on. Your pretzels won't stick to the paper. The baking sheet will contain the sprinkles so they don't roll all over your kitchen.

How Long Do Almond Bark Pretzels Last?

When stored properly, these pretzels will last for up to two weeks. Keep the almond bark pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness.
